The morning after the night before, but with this handy tip it doesn't have to be like this
Pre-pear to be amazed

Drinking this fruit juice before a night on the booze could stop you getting a hangover

Scientists claim just 220ml of the special drink could cut your morning-after headache

IF there's one thing for sure it's that Christmas party season is well under way... which means the festive hangover is now very much a thing.

It doesn't have to be that way though, as it's been claimed there's a very easy thing you can do to cut the chance of a headache and nausea the morning after the night before.

Researchers at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CISRO), the research team of the Australian government, claim pear juice is the answer.

Apparently, people who drank 220ml of Asian pear juice before a night on the sauce were much less likely to have a bad hangover than those who didn't - in fact, it made the testers who had it feel 21 per cent better, after they were tested on 14 hangover points like having a headache and light sensitivity.

It's good news for those whose Christmas bash is on a work night too - this method especially boosted people's ability to concentrate the next day.

On top of that, the juice has anti-inflammatory effects which means your headache will be better too.

Although the reason it helps so much isn't completely clear at the moment, a few ideas have been mooted.

Lead researcher Manny Noakes thinks it could be down to the enzymes in the fruit, which stop the body absorbing so much alcohol and speed up the way it's metabolised too.

Before you get too excited, there are some things to keep in mind:

  • You have to drink the pear juice BEFORE you go out boozing, having a glass once you're inebriated doesn't work
  • Only Asian (also known as Korean) pear juice has the right effect, although scientists are looking at whether it's the same for Western versions
  • At the moment researchers don't know if eating the fruit has any impact either
  • You must have at least 220ml of the juice

All well and good, but does this mean you can nip to your local corner shop and pick up a carton of Asian pear juice?

Sadly it's not quite that simple.... but it's not too far off.

Although it sounds exotic Asian pear juice is available in many supermarkets like Tesco and Sainsbury's.

Sure it's all fun at the time, but did you get your pear juice in first?

Haiti Crushed Pear Juice can be bought online from Asian supermarkets, and there are other versions on Amazon.

Of course you could also give blending your own version a go, as Asian pears can be bought fresh from most of the big supermarkets.

If you don't have any to hand though fear not - choosing your tipple wisely can help cut the hangover too.
